Supervised Release

A growing percentage of Miami’s population has been “released” from jail or prison with some form of highly-restrictive supervision by the Florida or Miami Department of Corrections. If you are on house arrest, probation, or community control, you’ll find information below about your office and the officers assigned to your case.

Pretrial Supervision

House Arrest is run by MDCR. The judge can assign you one of three types of house arrest - Level 1, 2, or 3. When you enroll in house arrest, you will receive information about your restrictions from the house arrest officer assigned to your case.

  • 1401 NW 7th Ave, Miami FL 33125 (formerly the women’s jail)

    Emergency Line: 786-263-4899

  • Officer Herrera: 305-726-5155

    Officer Sinclair: 305-726-5987

    Officer Washington: (305) 726-7911, takesha.washington@miamidade.gov

  • Judges can waive installation costs and daily fees. However, if they don’t, the costs are as follows.

    $100 installation fee

    $2/day

The initial payment for a person to be released to house arrest is $128 ($100 + two weeks of daily fees), which must be paid via money order. Address the money order to Dade County Work Furlough and deliver it to the house arrest office at 1401 NW 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33125.

Community Control & Probation

Probation and community control are run by the Florida Department of Corrections. Community control is significantly more restrictive, and typically requires an ankle monitor, a second tracking device, and a detailed schedule of what you’re doing every day. Probation allows more freedom of movement, but still may require a GPS monitor and a curfew.

Jails & Prisons

County Jails in Miami

Jails in Miami are run by the Miami Dade Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (MDCR), a county agency. There are three county jails in Miami, Metro West Detention Center (MWDC), Pretrial Detention Center (DCJ, PTDC, the County), and Turner Guilford Knight (TGK). The County reopened the Stockade in 2022, a decrepit jail found to have unconstitutional pressure by the DOJ, but due to public pressure, it closed. The County is also planning on building a new jail complex, at a tune of nearly $500 million, which would be located next to TGK. Organizers and advocates fought hard against this jail proposal.

Daily jail statistics are here, showing the daily jail population and demographic breakdown of who is in jail and on what types of charges.
